Storyline
Shun is a 4th grade elementary student living in Nokonoshima. During the utterly boring summer holidays, his father, Kazuyoshi, who used to be an ardent member of a movie club, gives him an aged camcorder, saying "I give you this since I've got no money for buying a PlayStation. It's no fun having the same stuff as others, is it?" Being rather pleased with its unrefined design, Shun is completely mesmerized by what he can do with the camcorder. Influenced by his father, Shun has always been very fond of Hollywood movies in the 1980s and 1990s. Together with his good friends, Nobu and Take-chan, Shun is totally absorbed into a mockery of motion picture filming...
Plot
This story is set in Nokonoshima, an island off Fukuoka City where almost every resident of the city has been to and they feel somehow attached to. Despite being an isolated island, it is located in the peculiar proximity to one of the major metropolises in Japan (the island can be reached from Fukuoka in a mere ten minutes). The metropolitan cityscape is, therefore, just a stone's throw from the beach on the island. It seems close but far, and it seems far but close… The theme in this movie is what kind of mentality a boy being born and raised in such an island comes to possess.
