“Chura-ii Girls Up! Stage” Okinawan-Style Fashion Show

On Thursday March 26th at the 7th Okinawa International Movie Festival the “Chura-ii Girls Up! Stage” took place at the Beach Stage at the Ginowan Convention Center. It used a specially constructed platform in the Tropical Beach area. 
 
 



This is the second year the presentation has been done at the festival. It’s a collaboration between the “Okinawa Kawaii Stage” and the Asobi System company, aimed at promoting Japanese sensibility of “Kawaii” (cute) to the fashion world. Moving beyond just fashion, the show was billed as an entertainment event for girls showcasing fashion, comedy and musical elements, for a multi-dimensional affair that lasted over 2 hours.


 

The audience was wowed by the professional model’s beautiful and dignified presentation on the runway. The emcees, comedian duo Oriental Radio, also walked with the models wearing casual outfits.

 

Comedians Daisuke and Hanako Miyagawa introduced the “Kariyushi Collection, Okinawa-style fashion known as “Kariyushi wear”.




Following the fashion show, 86BAZOOKAAAAAA, Trendy Angel, Panther, Bambino, Jungle Pocket and Korokoro Chikichiki Peppers performed their comedic routines for the appreciative audience.

 
 





In addition, popular musical acts NMB48, Natsuko Kondo and K-pop group Supernova thrilled the crowd with some of their well-known numbers. NMB48 performed 3 songs include their newest track “Don’t look back!” released on Tuesday March 31st. K-pop Group Supernova, the last act, came out to many supporters who were holding round paper fans with the Korean language on them. The all-male quintet looked dapper in their white suits. The leader Yoonhak joked, “In Okinawa I ate the seaweed food sea grapes, also called as gems of ocean, am I a gem today?” The audience roared.
 

  



For the finale, all the models, comedians and musicians walked the runway together. The collaboration offered the audience a unique entertainment experience.
