OIMF7 Shows Success in Numbers

The 7th Okinawa International Movie Festival saw some 400,000 visitors attend the various events across the islands this year, with red carpets taking place in Naha, Ginowan and Okinawa City. All ensuring that more people than ever could glimpse the stars and feel the energy of OIMF.

286 volunteers assisted in cleaning up venues and guiding guests around the festival this year, including for 58 film screenings. 16 Special Invitation Films from around the world gave the festival its international flavor, but with 19 Community Based movies, the importance of developing local talent has always been at the core of the festival.

That local outreach saw 23 All Island Support Groups assist the festival, up from 9 in past years, and representing the main goal of this year’s festival – to include “All Things in All the Islands.”

OIMF’ also honored one young director through the Creators Factory “Best New Creators Award,” which went to Satoko Motoyoshi for “Kizu Ningyo (An Injured Doll).”

Some 199 artists from Yoshimoto appeared over the five days, with 131 program guests, 199 dance performers and 167 live artists entertaining the crowd. Notable names such as NMB48, Naomi Watanabe, Sho Aikawa, Revalina S. Temat (star of Indonesian production “Assalamu’alaikum Beijing”) and comedians Garage Sale provided some of the star power.
